As darkness falls, the three are stuck in no man's land after an aborted attack on the German lines. One of the soldiers has been severely wounded and requires immediate medical assistance. Another soldier is informed that a tremendous artillery bombardment is approaching, and that remaining where they are will result in certain death. The three begin their escape back to the Allied trenches, chased by the ever-watchful German soldiers who think another attack is coming.
